Award-winning British filmmakers Scott Elliott and Sid Sadowskyj have announced their latest feature documentary, Northern Made, a cinematic exploration of the industries, innovators and entrepreneurs driving one of the most significant economic transformations in modern Britain.
Currently filming the documentary Spinning Plates with Michelin-starred chef Tommy Banks and in post-production on the global special forces series In the Shadows, the filmmakers are now turning their cameras toward the North of England — capturing the ambition, innovation and momentum reshaping the region’s future.
Northern Made will journey across Northern England, from the financial towers and innovation districts of Manchester to advanced manufacturing centres in Sheffield, global trade routes through Liverpool and the dramatic clean energy landscapes along the Northern coastline.
Through immersive cinematography, cinematic access and intimate interviews, the film will capture a defining moment for a region moving rapidly onto the global stage.
A Region Transforming the Future of Industry
This is the story of the North — and how it is transforming the future of industry.
Across Northern England, a new chapter of economic and technological progress is unfolding. From advanced manufacturing and clean energy to digital innovation, life sciences and infrastructure, the region is rapidly redefining its role on the global stage.
The rest of the world is beginning to notice.
At the heart of this transformation are the people and organisations shaping what comes next — visionary entrepreneurs, pioneering engineers, world-leading researchers and the businesses building the industries of the future.
Through cinematic storytelling, the film will capture the companies, institutions and innovators driving this new industrial landscape. Each organisation will be filmed over several days, allowing the production to document not only the scale of their operations but also the people, ideas and ambition behind them.
Shot with the production values of a feature film, the documentary will combine breathtaking aerial cinematography, immersive on-location filming and intimate interviews with industry leaders.
The result will be a powerful portrait of a region in motion — where industrial heritage meets cutting-edge innovation, and where the next generation of global industries is being built.
This is more than a film about industry. It is the story of a region shaping the future.
Sid Sadowskyj, Executive Producer at Scott & Sid Studios, said:
“Northern England is one of the most exciting economic stories in the world today. Across the region we’re seeing extraordinary innovation, entrepreneurship and ambition, yet much of this transformation remains under-reported.
Northern Made will capture this moment — telling the story of the people, industries and ideas redefining the North and showcasing the region on a global stage.”
A spokesperson for the Northern Powerhouse Partnership said:
“The Northern Powerhouse Partnership is pleased to support this production to showcase the huge economic opportunity the North of England represents.
We’re looking forward to highlighting our industrial legacy, innovation assets and strengths in sectors such as green energy and advanced manufacturing, as the North builds its position on the world stage.”
Showcasing the North’s Global Opportunity
Home to more than 15 million people, over one million businesses and some of the UK’s leading research universities, Northern England represents one of Europe’s largest and most diverse regional economies.
Northern Made will explore how collaboration between cities, industries and institutions is helping the region unlock its economic potential and attract global investment.A select group of organisations across the North will also feature in the production, sharing their stories as part of the wider narrative.
A Growing Slate of Documentary Productions
Northern Made forms part of a growing slate of documentary productions from Scott & Sid Studios.
The filmmakers are currently in post-production on In the Shadows, a global documentary series featuring rare first-hand accounts from elite special forces operators, including former members of the SAS, SBS, Delta Force and US Naval Special Warfare units. The series explores the physical, emotional and psychological realities of life in special operations through unprecedented access and cinematic storytelling.
At the same time, Scott & Sid are filming Spinning Plates, a feature documentary following Michelin-starred chef Tommy Banks as he navigates the intense pressure of expanding his restaurant empire while balancing family life, financial risk and creative ambition.
With Northern Made, the filmmakers aim to create a powerful feature film that celebrates Northern England’s industrial legacy while presenting a bold vision for its future as a globally connected hub for innovation, investment and cultural influence.
Filming will take place across multiple cities and landscapes throughout the North, capturing the organisations and individuals helping to redefine the region’s role in the global economy.
